Mark Young Construction’s 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off and Silent Auction for the Denver Fire Fighters Burn Foundation was a very successful event. Around 100 people attended the affair and bid on items ranging from gift certificates to restaurants to adventurous things such as learning how to scuba dive.
We had 24 people make chili which included an assortment of green and red options for tasters to enjoy. Congratulations to Tony Roberts from Proud Souls BBQ for being the winner of the 1st Place Red Chili as well as the overall Popular Vote for their chili named “Smokin’ Souls Brisket & Brew Chili.” The guest judges had a three-way tie for the best green chili between chilis named “Aka Mai Mouth is on Fire!,” “I am Groot – A.K.A Green Enchilada Chili,” and “Old Farts.” After the tie breaker vote, the award went to Ivan Garcia from Akaimai for his chili aptly named “Aka Mai Mouth is on Fire!.” The award for the best chili name went to Mandy Swarts from MYC for her green chili named “Try and Deflate this Brady.”
We want to thank everyone who made a chili for the event, as well as everyone who attended to help raise the funds for this important charity. The event raised more than $10,000 for the Foundation which will help to educate families, emergency workers, and the medical community about burn prevention and care while providing burn survivors and their families support and recovery assistance.
